The criminal case against executives of the pharmaceutical company Merion Biotech LLC (India) and its distributor in Uzbekistan, Quramax Medikal, has become one of the most widely discussed legal matters in the country.

The investigation alleges that the children's cough syrup "DOC-1 MAX" contained a toxic component — ethylene glycol — which is suspected to have caused mass poisoning and the deaths of over 70 children.

The Criminal Law Practice Team at the Litigation Department of PraeLegal Uzbekistan, led by Managing Partner Davranbek Ahmatov, faced a highly complex and extremely sensitive challenge. As part of the defense strategy in the "DOC-1 MAX" case, the team conducted a detailed examination of the syrup’s chemical composition, its compliance with pharmacopeial standards in Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom, and a scientific analysis of ethylene glycol's effects on children's bodies—particularly on kidney and lung functions. A crucial aspect of the legal defense was establishing whether a causal link existed between the consumption of the syrup and the tragic consequences.

The trial in the "DOC-1 MAX" case is ongoing, and PraeLegal Uzbekistan continues to provide legal support to its client, ensuring an objective analysis of the case circumstances and protection of their rights within the framework of the law.
